This isn't a noise pedal - it actually reduces all noise in your signal, even when playing. A noise gate just cuts off the signal below a certain threshold. When you're setting this up it's best to have it at the start of your chain. Then it's a set it and forget it kind of pedal. Normal mode should work fine in most situations but if you're experiencing a lot of noise then there's a strong mode too.
