Octave pedals are a form of pitch shifting. Notes are shifted higher or lower for a bouncing but angelic and thick type tone. You can often blend upper and lower octaves together while mixing in your dry signal for some really interesting tones. There are quite a few different types of octave pedal - analogue, synth, fuzz and modulated.
